NA to discuss major political, economic issues in upcoming session on Oct 29

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25 (APP):The fourth session of the 15th National Assembly, convening on October 29 (Monday), will discuss major political and economic issues of the country. President Dr Arif Alvi has summoned the session of the
National Assembly in exercise of powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 54
of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The first sitting of the session will be held at 4:00 pm in the Parliament House and the session is
likely to discuss the recent visit of Prime Minister to Saudi Arabia, talks
with IMF delegation, economic situation and other challenges being faced by the
country.
On the other hand, PML-N has also submitted an application
with the National Assembly Secretariat requesting the Speaker to issue
production orders for leader of the opposition Shahbaz Sharif, who is under NAB
custody, to attend the National Assembly session starting from Monday.
Five PML-N MNAs have signed this application who include
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Tahira Aurangzeb, Zehra Wadood Fatimi
and Marriyum Aurangzeb.
It has been submitted with the Acting Secretary of National Assembly Secretariat, Qamar
Sohail Lodhi. The section 108 (1) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of
Business in National Assembly says “the Speaker or Chairman of a Committee may
summon a member in custody on the charge of a nonbailable offence to attend a
sitting or sittings of the Assembly or meeting of a Committee of which he is a
member, if he considers his presence necessary”.
It is also expected that National Assembly will elect the
members of the Standing Committees during the upcoming session.
So far, three sessions of the National has been held. The
first session held between August 13 to August 17, 2018 had a total three sittings and its major business
included the oath taking of newly-elected Members of the 15th National Assembly
and elections of Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Prime Minister.
The House held nine sittings during the second session that
continued from September 18, 2018 till October 3, 2018. The main business in
this session was introduction and passage of the Finance Supplementary
(Amendment) Bill, 2018. The single-sitting
third session held on October 17, 2018 was requisitioned by the Opposition
lawmakers which discussed the country’s political situation and accountability
process. The Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif attended this session following production
orders issued by the Speaker.
A joint session of both Houses was also held on September
17, 2018 and elected President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi addressed
both Houses of the Parliament assembled together on the beginning of the first
parliamentary year of the National Assembly.
An elaborate discussion on several national issues is
expected in the 4th upcoming session of National Assembly. According to the tentative
schedule of the National Assembly sessions during 1st parliamentary year on the Assembly’s website (http://www.na.gov.pk/en/content.php?id=218), the session may continue till November 9, 2018.
