ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (APP):National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has called on the international community to uphold humanitarian law and protect civilian populations while condemning Israeli and Indian atrocities, during his address at the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference in Geneva.
Describing Israeli actions against Palestinians as “a trial of conscience of the whole of humanity,” Speaker Sadiq welcomed the recent Gaza ceasefire as a positive step toward lasting peace.
He reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, emphasising that the ongoing suffering of civilians continues to shock global conscience.
Turning to Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, he denounced what he described as “atrocities and human rights violations” in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIIOJK), including demographic changes and suppression of civil liberties.
While highlighting Pakistan’s restraint in response to India’s aggression, he reaffirmed the country’s right to defend its sovereignty and warned that India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty threatens regional stability.
Speaker Sadiq also condemned anti-Pakistan activities carried out from Afghan territory by the Indian-backed group “Fitna al-Khawarij” and defended Pakistan’s counter-terrorism operations as focused on civilian protection.
Addressing climate change, he described it as an emerging humanitarian crisis disproportionately affecting countries like Pakistan, despite their minimal contribution to global carbon emissions.
He urged the international community to provide fair and equitable financial assistance to vulnerable nations.
Highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy, Speaker Sadiq pointed to the country’s proposed UN Security Council Resolution 2788 as evidence of its dedication to global peace and stability.
He emphasised that diplomacy, dialogue, and parliamentary cooperation remain essential for strengthening international harmony.
The Pakistani delegation accompanying Speaker Sadiq included Federal Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister of State Barrister Aqeel Malik, and MNAs Choudhry Shahbaz Babar, Dr. Sharmila Sahiba Faruqui Hashaam, Ms. Muneeba Iqbal, and Mr. Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani.
