ISLAMABAD, Nov 10 (APP):The National Assembly on Monday passed a resolution to officially recognise former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as a National Martyr.
The resolution, tabled by Jam Abdul Karim Bijar, highlighted Bhutto’s role as the founder of the Pakistan People’s Party, former President, and former Prime Minister of Pakistan, noting his outstanding contributions to the country’s political, democratic, social, and nuclear development.
It commended his efforts for national unity, empowerment of the common people, strengthening of democratic institutions, and the establishment of Pakistan’s independent foreign policy.
The resolution also recalled that on April 4, 1979, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was executed following a judicial process that has been widely criticised both nationally and internationally. Recently, the Supreme Court of Pakistan observed that he did not receive a fair trial.
Millions of Pakistani citizens regard him as a national leader who laid down his life for the cause of democracy and the rights of the people.
The National Assembly recommended that the Federal Government officially declare Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto a National Martyr, issue an official notification recognizing his martyrdom in the national historical and democratic record, and ensure that federal institutions, educational syllabi, and archives reflect his contributions to the nation.
