ISLAMABAD, Jan 13 (APP):The National Assembly on Monday passed ‘the National Commission on the Status of Women (Amendment) Bill, 2024, aimed at enhancing clarity in the existing legislation and refining the framework for the exercise of authority by the Federation.
The bill was introduced by Minister for Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar and includes amendments to the National Commission on the Status of Women Act, 2012.
These amendments were proposed following the Supreme Court’s judgment (PLD 2016 SC 808) and subsequent directions by the Cabinet.
The primary objective of the amendments is to ensure a clearer understanding of the commission’s role and authority, promoting a more effective implementation of its mandate.
The bill will now proceed to the Senate for further consideration and approval.
