NA agenda remains unaddressed; Opposition’s Protest leads to early adjournment

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):National Assembly on Thursday did not take up its regular agenda and the sitting had to be adjourned following protest by the Opposition parties mainly on the issue of arrest of Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani.

The Speaker Asad Qaiser tried to convince the Opposition to run the business of the House as per decisions made by the Business Advisory Committee. However, the Opposition legislators continued protest when the Speaker gave the floor to former
Speaker and Minister for Inter-Provincial Creature Fehmida Mirza.

Following their protest, the Speaker Asad Qasier adjourned the House to meet again on Friday at 11 am.
The unaddressed agenda included two Calling Attention Notices regarding ban on the export of Gur (Molasses) and mixing of sugar and increase in the Hajj expenses due to withdrawal of subsidy by the Government.

The First Quarterly Report of the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Pakistan on the State of the Economy for the year 2018-19 and the Fiscal and Debt Policy Statements for the year 2018-19 were presented.

The other agenda items included consideration of the recommendations made by the Senate of Pakistan on the Finance Supplementary (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019, the Finance Supplementary (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019, motion under Rule 259 regarding energy situation in the country and motion of thanks to President for his address to both Houses assembled together on September 17, 2018.
