ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (APP):The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday directed all contesting candidates and political parties in the NA-168, Bahawalpur-V, by-election to end their election campaign by midnight between September 25 and 26, with public meetings and processions banned during the 48 hour period before polling ends on September 27.
The ECP said the restriction is imposed under Section 182 of the Elections Act, 2017, which prohibits holding, attending or convening public meetings and promoting or joining processions within the constituency during the specified period.
The commission warned that any violation could result in imprisonment for up to two years, a fine of up to Rs 100,000, or both.
The ECP urged political parties and candidates to comply with the law and exercise restraint to ensure that polling is conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner.
Polling for the NA-168 Bahawalpur-V by-election is scheduled for September 27.
