Mushal Mulick slams Indian crackdown as Shalimar erupts in protest
ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP):Prominent Kashmiri activist and wife of jailed Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik, Mushal Mulick on Thursday strongly condemned a large scale crackdown by Indian occupation forces in the Shalimar area of Indian occupied Kashmir, where several Kashmiri youths are allegedly detained during raids, sparking public protests and demonstrations against the arrests.
According to Ms Malik, angry residents poured onto the streets following the operation, chanting slogans against Indian authorities and demanding the immediate release of the detained youths.
She said the arrests reflected New Delhi’s continued attempts to suppress dissent and silence the voice of the Kashmiri people through coercion and intimidation.
“India cannot crush the legitimate struggle of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination through force, oppression and illegal detentions,” Ms Malik said, adding that the people of Kashmir remained steadfast despite mounting pressure and repeated crackdowns.
She termed the detention of innocent youths and the harassment of civilians as “clear evidence of Indian state terrorism” in occupied Kashmir and warned that the human rights situation in the region was deteriorating rapidly.
Ms Malik also called upon the international community and global human rights organisations to take immediate notice of what she described as grave human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir and press India to end its crackdown on civilians.
She maintained that Kashmiris would continue their struggle for freedom and dignity despite what she called systematic repression by Indian forces.
