ISLAMABAD, Jan 28 (APP):Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik on Wednesday met Chief Executive Officer of SciTech DiploHub Alexis Roig to discuss strengthening the role of science diplomacy in climate action.
During the meeting, the minister appreciated the work of SciTech DiploHub in promoting collaboration between diplomacy and science, noting that such integration had become a global necessity, particularly for countries like Pakistan that face growing economic and social challenges due to climate change.
The discussion focused on utilising Pakistan’s local research capacity and knowledge base, while emphasising the need for evidence-based and science-driven policymaking.
Both sides also explored the development of structured training and fellowship programmes, including proposals to place scientists within government ministries to improve policy formulation and implementation.
It was agreed that a detailed roadmap for future collaboration would be jointly developed within a week.
The proposed plan will focus on mobilising the AGC and around 100 PhD-level climate scientists, enhancing access to climate financing, and establishing sustainable scientific advisory mechanisms.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC), leading universities, national research centres, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
