Money laundering as heinous as terrorism: Governor Punjab

LAHORE, Mar 14 (APP):Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Thursday said corruption and money laundering were as heinous crime as terrorism and legislation would be introduced to curb corruption in the country.
Talking to a delegation of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) led by its President Hafeez-ur-Rehman at the Governor’s House, he said the government had decided to incorporate anti-terrorism act section into the anti money laundering act.
LHCBA Secretary General Ayaz Ranjha, ex member Punjab Bar Council (PBC), Syed Sajjad Haider Shah, Kabir Ch and Ansar Jamil were also present during the meeting.
The governor Punjab said the government had enforced rule of law in the country, adding law would take its course irrespective of a person’s status under the PTI government.
On justice, Ch Sarwar said societies broke down without justice, adding now the powerful would not escape accountability.
He said the slogan “One Pakistan, Not Two” was reflective of a just society, adding confidence of public and the international community had increased manifold in the government institutions today.
Governor Punjab Ch Sarwar called upon the lawyers community to play its role in the provision of speedy justice to litigants, adding role of bar was vital as the bar and bench were two wheels of the same vehicle.
He said the government hailed the sacrifices of lawyers for democracy and rule of law in the country, adding all problems would be resolved by taking the bar associations on board.
