Mohsin Naqvi says KP govt withdraws from security commitments during final negotiations
ISLAMABAD, Oct 04 (APP):Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government had agreed to sign a written agreement and submit an implementation plan within 72 hours on a number of security-related measures.
However, he said that during the final phase of negotiations last night, the provincial government stepped back from those commitments. Mohsin Naqvi stated that security issues should not be politicised while the province is facing a war-like situation.
In a tweet on X, Mohsin Naqvi said, the proposed agreement covered several key areas. These included reconsidering the Police Act 2026 in view of the security situation and the need to keep security matters free from political interference.
The agreement also called for measures to prevent terrorists from operating freely or establishing safe havens anywhere in the province. Another commitment was the clear condemnation of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA), and all other terrorist groups.
The proposed plan further included support for the national policy regarding Afghan refugees. This covered the repatriation of Afghan nationals and the dismantling of Afghan camps in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the minister, the agreement also stated that there would be no contact with the Interim Afghan Government. It further included a commitment to provide substantial funding for counterterrorism operations and the police force.
Other points included full provincial ownership of counterterrorism measures and stronger cooperation with the Armed Forces. The proposed commitments also covered decisions related to counterterrorism efforts in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and the merged districts.
In addition, the agreement called for the implementation of the National Action Plan as part of the broader counterterrorism strategy.
Mohsin Naqvi said that despite agreeing to these measures and the submission of an implementation plan within 72 hours, the KP Government withdrew from the commitments during the final stage of negotiations.
He said the KP government should refrain from politicizing the security-related matters, particularly at a time when the province was facing the challenge of law and order.
