MoCC devising public private partnership to overcome pollution: Amin Aslam

ISLAMABAD, April 4 (APP):Adviser to Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam Thursday said the ministry of climate change (MoCC) is devising a scaled up mechanism for public private partnership to overcome the pollution issue prevailing in the federal capital.
Talking to APP, the adviser said along with vehicular emissions and other factors was open burning of garbage which was creating harmful emissions and posing serious risk to human health.
“Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (PK-EPA) has the mandate of monitoring ambient pollution whereas with the increasing population of the federal capital it demanded to have multi-pronged strategy to cope with this issue,” the adviser added.
He said that we had been holding various consultative discussions with private entrepreneurs to collaborate with the ministry for endeavours aimed at proper disposal of garbage through a landfill site. “We are planning to introduce a new system of separately disposing organic and inorganic household waste so that indecomposable garbage particularly plastic could be dumped accordingly in a landfill and decomposable waste to be used for compost,” he added.
Amin said plastic was creating serious pollution and the ministry had been developing a framework to ban plastic in the federal capital which would be implemented across the country after coordination with the provinces.
