MoCC 7 out of 9 foreign funded projects under progress

TBTTP helps generate around 85,000 green employment opportunities amid Covid-19

ISLAMABAD, Dec 13 (APP):The Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC) has been looking after nine foreign funded projects under various global conventions on climate change for sustainable and long-term mitigation measures for reducing overall impact of environmental degradation in the region.

According to an official of the ministry, the core project for scaling-up of Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) risk reduction in Northern region of the country under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) whereas the project worth US$ 37 million while the completion deadline is June 2023.

The second project is of Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Programmme (GSLEP) under the Convention on Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) of worth US$ 19.77 million while its completion date is by 30 June 2023.

Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Project is the third project under UNFCCC, Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) worth US$ 9.338 million whose deadline falls by December 2021.

The fourth is Sustainable land Management Programme under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) worth US$ 5.581 million and its completion has been set by 30 June 2020.
The fifth is REDD+ Readiness Preparation for Pakistan aimed at reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and foster conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks under UNFCCC of US$ 3.8 million which is going to be completed by 28 June 2020.
The sixth project namely Global Environment Facility (GEF) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) project for Small Grants Programme-6 under UNFCCC, UNCBD, UNCCD worth US$ 3 million to be completed by June 2018.

The seventh project named Generating Global Environmental Benefits from Improved Decisions Making Systems and Local Planning in Pakistan, the project is Capacity Development Global Environment Facility (GEF) amounting US$ 0.9 million whose completion is expected by 2020.

The eighth project of Second National Communication on Climate Change under UNFCCC costing US$ 0.352 million completed in September 2018 and the ninth is the study on Carbon Pricing which was UNFCCC Supported by UNFCCC Secretariat which has been completed in November 2018.
