MNA Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar hosts Dustoor Civic Labs participants
ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (APP):President Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF) and MNA Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar hosted an interactive Parliament Exposure Session for participants of the Dustoor Civic Labs at Parliament House on Monday.
The session was organised by the Young Parliamentarians Forum in collaboration with Edlytica to provide young participants with an opportunity to interact with parliamentarians and learn about Parliament, the Constitution and democratic governance.
Students from Bahria University Islamabad, the Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences), Peshawar, and Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, attended the session. They interacted with Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar and General Secretary YPF Nawabzada Mir Jamal Khan Raisani, MNA. The session was moderated by Special Secretary (Special Initiatives), National Assembly Secretariat, Syed Shamoon Hashmi.
The participants received a briefing on the Constitution of Pakistan, including the composition of Parliament under Article 50, the right to education under Article 25-A and constitutional provisions concerning the promotion of the social and economic well-being of the people under Article 37(e).
They were also briefed on the roles and functions of the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF), Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights (PCCR) and Parliamentary Task Force on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The session also covered the development of Pakistan’s constitutional framework, the circumstances surrounding the establishment of Pakistan as an Islamic Republic, the constitution-making process and the contribution of Pakistani women to constitutional and parliamentary development.
Participants were given an overview of the Fundamental Rights guaranteed by the Constitution and were encouraged to understand these rights as both legal protections and responsibilities that should be respected in society.
Speaking on the occasion, Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar emphasised the importance of constitutional awareness and responsible citizenship. She said citizens should understand the Constitution and support the implementation of laws. She also stressed the importance of legal accountability and respect for the rule of law.
She briefed the participants on the objectives of the YPF and its efforts to connect young parliamentarians with young people. She also discussed consultative visits undertaken by the forum for the establishment of provincial chapters in provincial and legislative assemblies. She highlighted Youth Kacheris organised at universities, where students can interact with young parliamentarians and discuss issues affecting them.
Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar also discussed the use of social media, urging participants to verify information and remain cautious of misinformation and unverified narratives.
Nawabzada Mir Jamal Khan Raisani welcomed the participants and spoke about his interactions with students and young people across Pakistan. He encouraged students to pursue their education, develop their careers and contribute to the country’s development.
Speaking about the youth of Balochistan, he urged them to avoid narratives based on hatred and division and cautioned against linguistic propaganda and extreme nationalism. He noted that Balochistan is home to diverse communities.
He also encouraged young people to use social media responsibly and promote knowledge, constructive dialogue and social cohesion.
The session included an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which students discussed constitutional provisions and issues concerning young people with the parliamentarians.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony. President YPF Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar and General Secretary YPF Nawabzada Mir Jamal Khan Raisani distributed prizes among students for university projects focusing on the Constitution, minority rights and public issues.
