ISLAMABAD, Jun 11 (APP):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader and chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged Kashmiris to uphold the values of unity, brotherhood, tolerance and mutual respect during the holy month of Muharram, expected to begin around June 16.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a message ahead of Muharram, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the sacred month carried a timeless message of sacrifice, patience, justice and compassion, embodied in the life and martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at Karbala.
He said Muharram served as a powerful reminder of the need to stand firmly for truth, justice and moral values in the face of oppression.
Mirwaiz urged people to strengthen social cohesion and preserve the spirit of communal harmony, and peaceful coexistence that have long been the hallmark of Kashmiri society.
He also appealed to religious scholars, community leaders, organizers and the general public to ensure that Muharram observances were conducted in a peaceful, disciplined and dignified manner, fostering an atmosphere of respect and brotherhood.
Expressing hope that the sacred occasion would inspire people to work towards unity, peace, and the welfare of society, Mirwaiz prayed for prosperity, harmony and well-being across occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
