ISLAMABAD, Nov 05 (APP): Parliamentary Secretary for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Dr. Nelson Azeem Wednesday informed the National Assembly that the ministry is taking comprehensive measures to ensure the provision of quality and affordable medicines to the public.

Responding a Calling Attention Notice in the House, he said that the ministry, in collaboration with the Islamabad Health Regulatory Authority and the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan, has constituted a technical committee to maintain uniform and affordable rates for medicines and medical tests.

Dr Nelson Azeem said that the committee comprises representatives from both public and private sectors. After holding multiple meetings, it has formulated recommendations for standardizing medical test rates and quality.

He said that the committee has finalized rates for standard tests, which all laboratories have been instructed to display prominently, while consultations are still ongoing regarding specialized test rates.

Dr Neslon Azeem said that an effective strategy is being developed to maintain uniform test rates across Islamabad to ensure that patients are not financially burdened.

The Parliamentary Secretary said he personally met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Islamabad Health Regulatory Authority to discuss the matter in detail, and the authority assured that all rates would be properly regulated and displayed.

Dr Nelson Azeem emphasized that the government’s primary objective is to provide equitable, quality and affordable healthcare facilities to the people.
