ISLAMABAD, Dec 24 (APP): Minister for information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Wednesday described the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) as a landmark development, emphasizing that the process is being carried out with full transparency and in the broader national interest.
Addressing a news conference alongside Prime Minister’s Adviser on Privatisation Muhammad Ali and Privatisation Commission Secretary Usman Akhtar Bajwa, the minister congratulated Muhammad Ali and his team on the successful completion of the privatization process.
“The journey to restore PIA’s past glory has begun,” Tarar remarked, noting that discussions on privatizing the airline have spanned decades, with several previous attempts failing to materialize.
He added that, on the Prime Minister’s directive, the bidding process was broadcast live to ensure transparency.
With the privatization finalized, Tarar said the airline’s recurring losses would no longer burden the national exchequer, ensuring that taxpayers’ money is not used to cover deficits.
He further stated that work on reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is progressing rapidly.
