Minister stresses for preparing a comprehensive policy to ensure good health of students

ISLAMABAD, May 2 (APP):Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood on Thursday stressed the need for preparing a comprehensive strategy jointly formulated by the ministries of education and health to ensure the good health of school children.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of school base eye health screening organized here in partnership with SightSavers at Islamabad Model Schools for Girls (IMCG) G/6-1, he said that the government would introduce a mega programme regarding health of the children residing in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Under the directions of the Prime Minister Imran Khan, Shafqat said that entire ICT public sector schools would be made as model schools.

He underlined the need of bringing an educational system in the country under which the children would prefer to take admission in the public sector schools as compare to the private sector.

This program would be monitored by the government, he added. He vowed to make Neya Pakistan by forging unity among the nation.

He lauded the Sightsaver for introducing the best program of saving the eye sights of the children as well as teachers.

He said that under the program an eye test of around two million children would be conducted.

The children who identified with weak eye sight would be provided glasses, he added. He went on say that eye test of around ten thousand teachers would also be conducted.

He also stressed that this programme should not be run as a project adding it should be continued.
