Minister discusses plastic-free Islamabad plan with traders, business leaders

ISLAMABAD, Oct 08 (APP):Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry on Thursday met a delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Traders Association to discuss key measures for making Islamabad a plastic-free city.
During the meeting, participants exchanged views on steps being taken to eliminate plastic use in the federal capital and promote environmentally friendly alternatives.
Talal Chaudhry said Islamabad would become Pakistan’s first plastic-free city. He stated that eliminating plastic would help improve the city’s environment and reduce pollution.
The minister urged citizens to avoid using plastic shopping bags and adopt environmentally friendly alternatives. He said public participation would play an important role in achieving the objective of a plastic-free Islamabad.
Talal Chaudhry further said that the campaign would be made successful through the cooperation, suggestions and support of both the business community and residents of the city.
Representatives of the Traders Association assured the government of their full support for measures aimed at making Islamabad plastic-free. They expressed their commitment to assisting official efforts and encouraging compliance within the business community.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, representatives of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Traders Association, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
Participants discussed coordination among stakeholders and the role of public awareness in advancing the government’s plastic-free Islamabad initiative.
