ISLAMABAD, Mar 5 (APP):Minister for National Food Security and Research Sahibzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan on Tuesday said the government was taking steps to promote local poultry sector and stressed the need for ensuring full compliance of international standards to enhance the exports of poultry and poultry products.
The minister was talking to Chairman Big Bird Group and Convener of Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) Export Committee Abdul Basit, who called on him here to discuss the issues and challenges faced by the local poultry sector and exports of the poultry products.
The PPA head also submitted budget proposals for the support of poultry sector in order to enhance poultry production as well as to increase the exports of its products.
The PPA demanded drawback on export of poultry products at par with other sectors, including 6 percent on chicken hatching, table eggs and 8 percent on chicken meat and meat products. Besides the PPA also urged for total waving off of cash margins on import of raw material for value addition in poultry.
Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan said the government was making all efforts to enhance export in the domain and the rightful demands would be considered and assured the support to poultry association regarding their proposals in the budget.
He added that disease free poultry was fit for export and to achieve the maximum exports proper surveillance was needed.
He said the National Veterinary Lab provided the facility to check the samples and sought the PPA’s cooperation in monitoring the poultry.
The matters regarding export of poultry to Afghanistan were also discussed.
