Media monitoring centre to help improve governance: Pervaiz Rashid

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22 (APP): Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Tuesday said that the establishment of Media Monitoring and Tracking Center at Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications (DEPM) would help improve the standard of governance in the country.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony as chief guest,he said that such a  monitoring center was need of the hour as so far there was no proper media  monitoring system available in the country.

The centre would help getting first hand knowledge about people’s  opinion, besides promoting understanding among government, people, media  and TV channels.

The minister said that the newly-established center where 80 television channels would be monitored simultaneously was need of the hour.It would help in exchange of information between the media and the government.

The minister said that various government departments would be able to improve their performance in light of the feed back of the masses given by the monitoring center.

He said that various ministries and departments would be provided information about the programmes telecast by various TV channels related to them.

The project would help monitoring advertisements of TV channels, besides preparing monitoring reports of programmes, news and analysis.

The project would help departments to improve their performance.

Pervaiz Rashid said that upgrading the mass media network was necessary and this new system would help all sections of the society perform their duties in a better manner.

He appreciated the efforts of the officers and staff of the DEPM in transforming this dream into reality.

Earlier Director General DEMP Muhammad Saleem while throwing light on the aims and objectives of the project said that the project was launched to provide correct but timely information to the government.

He said that idea of the center was proposed some three years back and now it has become a reality.

He appreciated the support provided by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and National Heritage.

Besides Secretary IBNH Saba Mohsin Raza,senior officers of the Ministry also attended the ceremony.Later the minister unveiled the plaque and cut the ribbon to formally inaugurate the center.
