ISLAMABAD, May 28 (APP):Former prime minister’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Monday completed its
statement before accountability court, and denied the allegation of being
beneficial owner of London flats and offshore companies.
She stated that she wouldn’t present any witness in her favor as
the prosecution side has failed to prove its case against her that was
based on assumptions.
She said that she never took any financial benefit from Nelson
and Nescol companies. She has nothing to do with 25% shares of
Gulf Steel Mills, Al-Taufiq case, and settlement of amount worth
Rs 12 million.
Maryam said that she always denied the contents of letter
dated July 3, 2017 presented by Wajid Zia. The documents concerned
were not attached with the letter due to which it couldn’t be made as part
of case record, she added.
She further said this letter was allegedly sent by Director Finance
Agency (DFA) to JIT. The way letter was sent to JIT was quite suspicious
and not according to the law, she added.
Moreover, with regards to the Mossack Fonseca letter, she said that
she was denied the right to cross-examine the witness who penned down
the letter. The court cannot depend on the letter in a transparent trial as the
documents mentioned in it were not attached, she said.
The NAB prosecutor remarked that Maryam is free to summon
the author of the letter before the court for cross-examination. To this, her
legal counsel responded that they will have to see if the witness can be
summoned or not.
Maryam, along with husband Captain (retd) Safdar and father Muhammad
Nawaz Sharif appeared before accountability judge Muhammad Bashir for
testimony.
The court later, adjourned the case till Tuesday wherein Capt. (Reted)
Safdar would record his statement in Avenfield property reference.
She also submitted a written reply comprising nine pages before
accountability court in which she stated that being a daughter of former
prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was her only crime. She knew
why references were filed against her family and she was being kept
away from her mother, she alleged.
Maryam said she was sole woman in the history of Pakistan who has
continuously appeared before court. She said she never held any public post
and didn’t remain involved in any sort of corruption.
She said that her fault and crime was that she stood by her father.
She alleged that the references against her were meant to pressurize
her father.
