ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (APP):Eminent Hurriyat leader Altaf Hussain Wani on Saturday said the dream of merging with Pakistan, inspired by the July 19, 1947 resolution, continues to thrive among the Kashmiri people, and the martyrs will always live on in their collective memory.
In an exclusive conversation on the eve of July 19, Hurriyat leader Altaf Hussain Wani reaffirmed that Kashmir’s aspiration for merger with Pakistan remained deeply rooted in the hearts of its people.
He said the July 19, 1947 resolution continues to inspire generations, representing the political will and unwavering commitment of the Kashmiri people toward their right to self-determination.
Wani emphasized that Kashmir’s martyrs were not just a part of history but living symbols of resistance. Their sacrifices are the foundation of our struggle, he said. They laid down their lives for a cause that continues to guide us even today, he said, adding, remembering the July 19 resolution is not just a matter of commemoration, but a reaffirmation of the goal it envisioned.
He further stated that the martyrs keep the freedom movement alive, with their blood serving as a constant reminder of the price paid for dignity and justice.
Wani urged the international community to recognize the enduring spirit of the Kashmiri people and the legitimacy of their aspirations, stressing that the legacy of the martyrs will continue to shape the region’s political future.
“Even though key Hurriyat leaders like Masarat Alam Butt, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Asiya Andrabi, Ayaz Akbar, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and others remain imprisoned in Indian jails, especially in Tihar, the spirit of resistance has only grown stronger among the masses”, he added.
Their ongoing unlawful detention is a serious violation of human rights, yet it has failed to weaken the resolve of the Kashmiri people and their presence remains alive and active in every Kashmiri household, he said and added, Kashmiris have never accepted any so-called democracy or government imposed on them.
