ISLAMABAD, Oct 09 (APP):Maroof International Hospital (MIH) has launched a Cancer Support Group initiative alongside a three-month breast cancer awareness campaign to promote early detection, preventive healthcare and emotional support for cancer patients and their families.
The campaign, launched under the Maroof Community Support Program, focuses on women’s health, breast cancer screening and mental well-being.
Addressing the launching ceremony as chief guest, Nepal’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Rita Dhital, called for greater awareness, early detection and timely treatment of breast cancer.
She appreciated the hospital’s efforts to promote breast cancer awareness and stressed the importance of preventive healthcare, informed health choices and access to appropriate medical services for women.
On the occasion, Haroon Naseer, Chief Executive Officer of MIH, announced the Cancer Support Group project, reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to expanding cancer care services and providing comprehensive support to patients and their families.
Dr. Mir Abdul Waheed, Medical Director of MIH, highlighted the importance of cancer prevention, early diagnosis and timely treatment, emphasizing that awareness and prompt medical consultation were essential for appropriate care.
Dr. Saira Mahmood, Consultant Breast Surgeon, briefed participants on breast cancer risk factors and warning signs, urging women to seek medical assessment if they notice unusual changes in their breasts.
Dr. Ayesha Amin, Consultant Radiologist, highlighted the role of mammography and appropriate screening in identifying breast abnormalities and supporting early diagnosis.
Psychologist Zubia Zubair emphasized the importance of emotional and mental health support for cancer patients and their families throughout diagnosis and treatment.
As part of the campaign, MIH is offering a 50 per cent discount on mammography and screening services during the three-month initiative to encourage women to prioritize their breast health and seek screening in accordance with medical advice.
The Cancer Support Group aims to provide a supportive environment for patients and their families, recognizing that comprehensive cancer care extends beyond medical treatment to include emotional well-being, compassionate support and guidance.
Rubina Afzal, Head of the Maroof Community Support Program and Global Projects, highlighted the importance of sustained community-based health initiatives.
She said the campaign would begin within the hospital under the principle of “care for the caregivers” and extend to educational institutions, corporate organizations and underserved communities.
Through the initiative, MIH aims to promote early detection, improve public understanding of breast cancer, raise awareness about mental health and strengthen support for patients and their families.
