Manufacturers of energy efficient products to be supported: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD, Jul 27 (APP): Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif has said that government would take necessary steps to facilitate those manufacturing energy efficient products.

He stated this here on Wednesday at Pakistan Energy
Label Authorization Certificate Distribution Ceremony.

The Pakistan Energy Labels Authorization Certificates were given to three qualified fan manufacturers GFC Fans, U.I. Industries (STARCO Fans) and Super Asia.

The minister said that production of quality products at cheaper rates should be on priority for which the government would facilitate all those manufacturing energy efficient items.

To a request regarding the necessary steps to exempt duties on import of Silicon Electric Steel Sheet, the he assured that his Ministry would take necessary steps for facilitation in this regard.

It is to mention that Silicon Electric Steel Sheet is a basic
raw material for motors, fans etc and large as well as small manufacturers both can benefit and produce energy efficient products at cheaper cost.

On the occasion, Hassan Nasir Jamy, Manager Director
ENERCON told that ENERCON has closely worked with various key stakeholders like Ministry of Science & Technology, PCSIR, PSQCA and manufacturers of various appliances and development partners which
formed the basis for developing the Energy Labeling Scheme in view of the best practices of regional countries.

He further told that the National Energy Efficiency and
Conservation Bill 2016 had been approved recently which shall provide a legal basis to stop wastage of energy.

Minister for Water and Power appreciated the steps taken by
ENERCON for bringing Energy Labeling Scheme into practical phase which would help consumers to buy energy efficient products and appreciated the fan manufacturers for voluntary registering in the Energy Labeling Regime.

He said that the program would give an opportunity to bring other products like motors, lights, AC at standards of international level.

JICA Chief appreciated the role of ENERCON, Ministry of Water and Power and all stakeholders.

He shared the information about the support being extended by JICA in the Energy Labeling Scheme and promoting Energy Efficiency.

He appreciated the role of MD ENERCON and Asad Mahmood, Manager Technical for successful implementation of the Scheme.

Keeping in view the availability of an accredited Fan testing
lab of PCSIR in Pakistan and major share of electrical energy
consumption by fans, it was told that the scheme had been also developed for electric fans.
