ISLAMABAD, Nov 07 (APP):The LPG Committee’s first meeting was chaired by the Secretary, Petroleum, to operationalise a transparent auction mechanism and ensure fair market access under the approved deregulated framework.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns over LPG availability and unfair pricing.
Ali said the initiative was in the public interest, particularly to address difficulties faced by consumers who could not access LPG at affordable prices.
The minister said the new auction mechanism would strengthen the resilience of the supply chain, improve energy infrastructure and ensure equitable distribution of indigenous LPG while protecting vulnerable segments of society.
Under the new mechanism, indigenous LPG producers will allocate 10 per cent of their production to state-owned LPG marketing companies for supply to hard areas.
The remaining 90pc will be offered through transparent auctions held in the presence of the media.
The arrangement aims to improve LPG access, particularly in remote and underserved areas, while ensuring wider market participation.
During the meeting, it was decided that each company participating in the auction would be allowed a maximum allocation of 20 metric tons per day to provide fair opportunities to all eligible bidders.
It was also decided that daily LPG production would be closely monitored and the figures presented to the Prime Minister to ensure effective oversight of the supply situation.
The committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Secretary, Petroleum. Its members include the chairman of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), managing directors of the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Pakistan State Oil (PSO), the president of United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEP), and the director general (Liquefied Gases).
Ali Pervaiz Malik underscored that the objective was to provide a level playing field and equal opportunities to participating companies while improving LPG access for consumers.
The first meeting marks an important step towards implementing the LPG auction framework approved by the federal cabinet on November 4, 2026.
The committee is mandated to oversee auctions of indigenous LPG, review market supply arrangements and periodically assess pricing and bidding mechanisms.
