ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Islamabad Zone has launched an investigation into the Laiba Ejaz case involving alleged fraud of Rs7.75 million and is conducting raids at different locations to arrest the suspect.
An FIA official told APP on Saturday that Director FIA Islamabad Zone Syed Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari visited the residence of Laiba Ejaz, met her family members and expressed condolences over the tragic incident.
During the visit, the director also obtained details of the incident from the family and assured them that the matter was being investigated.
The official said initial information suggested that the suspect had allegedly gained the family’s trust by making false claims about his identity and professional position and received money from them for different purposes.
He said the suspect was not a registered visa agent but had initially claimed to be working as an accountant at the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The suspect later allegedly made different claims about his identity and employment to mislead the affected family.
Giving details of the alleged financial fraud, the official said the family had paid Rs550,000 to the suspect for arranging employment for Laiba Ejaz’s brother.
Another Rs7.2 million was allegedly paid to him on the promise of securing Laiba Ejaz’s admission to Harvard University in the United States.
The official said FIA investigators were examining the payments, the suspect’s claims and other aspects of the case to establish the facts.
He said raids were underway at different locations to trace and arrest the suspect, while further investigation was continuing.
The official added that further legal action would be taken in light of the findings, and additional details would be shared as the investigation progressed.
