ISLAMABAD, Sep 08 (APP):In a significant gesture coinciding with the celebrations of Saudi National Day, the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has extended a Rs.150 million developmental grant to the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) for the modernisation of its academic infrastructure.
The grant marks a major step in the University’s ongoing efforts, spearheaded by the President of IIUI, to improve academic and student facilities and transform IIUI into a modern, technology-enabled institution equipped to meet contemporary teaching, learning and research requirements, said a press release on Tuesday.
Under the first phase of the initiative, the Saudi grant will support the upgrading of classrooms, computer laboratories, information technology systems and allied academic facilities across the University.
The intervention addresses a longstanding need for modern teaching spaces and technological infrastructure capable of supporting evolving pedagogical and research demands.
A key component of the project is the establishment of a dedicated smart classroom in each faculty, equipped with an interactive smart board, digital podium and dedicated Wi-Fi connectivity, with capacity for up to 30 students.
Five computer laboratories will also be established, providing 55 workstations and a total of 220 computer systems, including desktops, VDI systems and laptops.
The facilities will be complemented by CCTV systems, furniture, curtains and other essential equipment and interior improvements.
The grant is expected to substantially strengthen the teaching and learning environment at IIUI by giving students and faculty greater access to modern digital resources, improved laboratories and more effective technology-supported classrooms.
The improvements are also expected to enhance the University’s academic profile and its attractiveness to prospective students.
The initiative forms part of a broader improvement drive personally pursued by the Acting Rector/President of IIUI, Prof. Dr Ahmed Saad Alahmed, over the past year, with particular emphasis on student welfare and the quality of facilities available to the University community.
Through regular visits to hostels and academic areas and direct engagement with students, the President has sought a firsthand understanding of the challenges confronting them and prioritised practical interventions to address longstanding infrastructure needs.
While the phased renovation of student hostels is already underway, the upgradation of classrooms and computer laboratories marks another significant step in this direction, reflecting the President’s sustained focus on instituting meaningful and constructive changes for the benefit of students.
The securing of the Rs. 150 million grant from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represents a major advancement in these efforts and reflects the President’s continued engagement, alongside his team, in mobilising support for the University’s development.
The University expressed its profound gratitude to the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its generous and continued support to IIUI. It described the grant as another manifestation of the Kingdom’s longstanding commitment to the University and a reflection of the enduring fraternal relationship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
IIUI said the initiative would help equip its students with learning environments aligned with contemporary global educational trends while strengthening the University’s capacity to deliver quality higher education in an increasingly technology-driven and interconnected world.
