KP Governor calls for modernization of Gemstone Industry to boost economy

PESHAWAR, Oct 28 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has said that the province is rich in valuable mineral resources, and if the mining and gemstone industry is developed on modern lines, it can play a vital role in strengthening both the provincial and national economy.
He said that the gemstone industry is the identity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that efforts are underway to make the province the strongest in Pakistan in terms of skills, resources, and opportunities.
He expressed these views while addressing the Pakistan Gems, Minerals and Manufacturers Exporters Association’s awards ceremony as chief guest here at the Governor House, on Tuesday.
During the event, the Governor distributed awards among 34 individuals for their outstanding contributions to the mineral and gemstone sector.
The ceremony was attended by Association President Noor-ul-Hassan, former MPA Khalid Waqar Chamkani, Honorary Consul General of Romania Masood Ahmad, representatives from the Afghan and Iranian consulates, Association Vice Chairman Asif Khan, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Junaid Altaf, Peshawar Chamber of Commerce President Shakeel Ahmad, and leading figures and experts from the gemstone industry.
Speakers including Association President Noor-ul-Hassan, Honorary Consul General of Romania Masood Ahmad, and Naushad Ahmad also addressed the gathering and highlighted the challenges faced by the gemstone business community.
Governor Kundi congratulated the award recipients and appreciated the Association’s efforts in promoting the industry.
He said that with the hard work of professionals, the passion of entrepreneurs, and the government’s support, the industry would achieve new heights.
He emphasized that peace is essential for investment, and all segments of society must work together for sustained development.
“The day is not far when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will become a prosperous and developed province,” he added.
The Governor said that the province’s mountains are blessed with precious gemstones and talented artisans. By introducing modern technology and polishing skills to international standards, these resources can capture global markets, he said.
Governor Kundi further said that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the national economy, and serious efforts are being made to promote them.
