Knowledge based education is need of time: Governor Punjab

ISLAMABAD, Dec 8 (APP): Governor Punjab and Chancellor University of Engineering & Technology Taxila Muhammad Rafique Rajwana Tuesday said that attaining high academic excellence in science and technology was a key to put Pakistan on road of development and prosperity.
He stated this while addressing the 14th Convocation 2015 of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila. The eminent educationists, heads of universities, faculty members, parents and students attended the Convocation. Addressing on the occasion, Governor Punjab said that Knowledge based education was need of hour. He said brilliant students should justify their education to become a proud Pakistani in the comity of nations by their extra ordinary work and contributions in different disciplines. The Governor named young graduates a galaxy of rising stars of country and appreciated the valuable contributions of their parents and teachers. He said that present government under the dynamic leadership
of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was going ahead by inviting foreign investment for big projects including China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) and these projects related to engineering which would provide jobs and business opportunities. The Governor said the current democratic government believed
in provision of quality education at the doorstep of every citizen for prosperity and development of the country.He asked graduates to contribute for prosperity of the country in practical field after completing their education. The Governor advised the graduates to not forget the poor’s and always help them and try to mitigate their sufferings. He said education was the fundamental right of every citizen and government had established a large number of schools, colleges and universities to provide better education facilities to all
sections of society. He also acknowledged the contributions of private sector and
stressed for provision of knowledge and quality based education to
compete with international world. He said that scope of engineering was very wide as necessity and importance was increasing day by day. “We have to be more efficient and should have to know much more about quality education and its proper usage”, he remarked.
Rafique Rajwana said that Pakistan was facing a lot of turmoil’s in term of terrorism and extremism and under the leadership Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif solid steps had been taken to tackle these issues. He also paid tribute and homage to the efforts done by the armed forces of Pakistan to eliminate terrorism adding “We cannot forget those who have laid their lives and rendered great sacrifices for the people of Pakistan and future of the country”. Sher Ali, representing the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif as chief guest at Convocation said that to Pakistan was facing three major problems of terrorism, energy crises and unemployment. He said youth and academia could play their vital role to help
politicians and bureaucracy overcome these challenges. Focusing on energy crunch in the country he suggested to young engineers to produce energy efficiently machinery and design
environment friendly buildings to save the wastage of energy. He said that 40% of world energy produces by coal but in our country we were not benefiting from this source of energy efficiently. He said government was giving due consideration on coal based power
generation projects to overcome energy crises up to 2017. The Provincial Minister also pointed out about a number of LNG based projects being initiated in Punjab and other parts of the country. He said that use of UPS should be avoided specially in winter season as it consumed three units of electricity and produced only one unit which was wastage of energy and money. Earlier, Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar (SI) Vice Chancellor University of Engineering & Technology Taxila giving welcome address and presenting the excellence in sports and co-curricular activities said that the university was a complete and complex system with numerous interaction subsystems engaged in the human resource development in engineering disciplines. He said that we believe “innovative ability” which played
prominent role in sustained economic success. He expressed the hope that Taxilaians would play a pivotal role in building a better world, more peaceful, more prosperous.
The VC UET advised students that their abilities as entrepreneurs would translate discoveries into practical application the process by which innovation is transformed into business ventures. He said university management was fully aware of their responsibilities and we should work for the uplifting socio economic development of the country.
Later Governor awarded shields to Ex VC’s UET, Taxila, Dr.Sharif Bhatti. Prof. Dr. Habib Ullah, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Javed, Dr.Muhammad Abass Chaudhry.The Governor also conferred of degrees to BSc Engineering Graduates,MSc. Engineering Graduates and PhD engineering Scholars.
