Khaqan urges joint strategy to curb corruption

ISLAMABAD, July 21 (APP): Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abassi Thursday urged to devise joint strategy for curbing corruption instead of sheer politicking on this issue and point scoring.

“Today every political party is exploiting this issue for
mud slinging and maligning each other but fail to evolve
consensus,” he said in a private news channel program.

“What we need is to agree a mechanism to reign in this menace for a better future of coming generations.”

He said a person can earn money through corruption but he
cannot hide it from the national institutions, functioning in the
country.

Talking to a private TV channel, the minister said all
political parties should sit together for elimination of this
menace from the society and Parliament is the best forum to
resolve and discuss this matter.

Replying to a question, he said opposition parties are using
Panama issue for their own interests. But, the fact is that
accountability should be carried out across the board to penalize all those involved in corruption. “Targeting an individual in this pretext cannot be a solution unless all corrupt are brought to justice.”

He said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif never opposed accountability of the corrupt, but any person specific proceedings would do no good to the effort for cleansing society of this menace.

Replying to another query about ToR, he said the Pakistan
Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) was not hurdle in way of preparing Terms of Reference (ToR).

After deployment of Rangers and launching Karachi operation
the law and order situation is much better in the mega city as compared to past, he maintained.

Shahid Khaqan said Federal government understands that
Rangers are need of Sindh to maintain law and order in Karachi as they have delivered well in recent months. “But if the Sindh government no more desire them to be in the city, it may approach the federal government.”
