Kashmiris must be given right to self-determination: Mir

ISLAMABAD, Oct 19 (APP): Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Prof Sajid Mir Wednesday said people of Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) must be given their legitimate right of self-determination in line with the resolutions of United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

He said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had effectively highlighted the Kashmir issue at different fora.

In an interview to APP, he said besides sending special envoys to different countries, there was a need to further engage parliamentarians, media and the government representatives to expose Indian brutalities in IOK before the world.

He said international community had acknowledged the people of Kashmir’s right to self-determination and termed Kashmiris’ love for Pakistan ‘immortal.’

Sajid Mir, who is also central leader of the Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith Pakistan, said innocent Kashmiris were holding peaceful protests carrying Pakistani flags for their legitimate right in IOK.

“While, brutal Indian forces are killing them. Heirs are burying their martyrs after wrapping in Pakistani flags. It reflects that how much people of Kashmir love with Pakistan,” he remarked.

The chairman said India was consistently denying to give Kashmiris their just right to self-determination and committing massive human rights’ violations to suppress their indigenous movement.

He regretted that international community was not giving due attention towards Indian brutalities in IOK and said “There is a need to awake world’s sleeping conscience.”

The West, Sajid Mir said, which claimed to be the champion of protecting human rights, should act accordingly and play its role in getting people of Kashmir free from Indian yoke.

Answering a question, the chairman said the Kashmir freedom movement had taken a new turn after the martyrdom of young Kashmiri leader Burhan Wani as thousands of Kashmiris daily took to streets against Indian subjugation in IOK.

He said Indian troops were butchering innocent Kashmiris and using prohibited pellet guns against the unarmed and peaceful protestors.

Sajid Mir reiterated that Pakistan would continue extending all possible support to people of Kashmir for their right to self-determination, utilizing all available resources.
