ISLAMABAD, Jan 04 (APP):Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq Sunday said that granting the Kashmiri people their fundamental and inalienable right to self-determination is both a moral and legal obligation of the international community.
In a message on the occasion of Right to Self-Determination Day, he emphasized that the Kashmir issue remains the unfinished agenda of the partition of the subcontinent, and its just and durable resolution in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council is indispensable for establishing lasting peace in the region.
The Speaker said that for more than seven decades, the people of Kashmir have been struggling for their rightful cause in the light of UN resolutions, yet justice has still not been delivered to them.
He recalled that on 5 January 1949, the United Nations Security Council adopted a historic resolution granting the people of Jammu and Kashmir the right to decide their future through a free and impartial plebiscite. Unfortunately, he added, this resolution has yet to be implemented.
Ayaz Sadiq said that India’s continued violations of UN Security Council resolutions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir over the past seven decades constitute a serious test of the conscience of the international community.
He strongly condemned the grave and systematic human rights violations being perpetrated by Indian occupying forces in the occupied territory, including extrajudicial killings, enforced arrests, curbs on fundamental freedoms, and deliberate attempts to alter the demographic composition of the region.
Ayaz Sadia stressed that these actions are blatant violations of international law and universally accepted human values.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment, the Speaker said that Pakistan will continue to extend moral, political, and diplomatic support to the just struggle of the Kashmiri people.
He reiterated that Pakistan will remain the voice of the Kashmiri people at international and regional forums and will continue to play an effective role in advocating their right to self-determination.
Ayaz Sadiq urged the international community to take immediate notice of the ongoing human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and to take concrete steps to ensure that the Kashmiri people are granted their fundamental right to self-determination.
He asserted that Pakistan will never abandon the Kashmiri people and will not allow their immense sacrifices to go in vain. Expressing optimism, he said that the day is not far when the Kashmiri people will succeed in attaining the great blessing of freedom.
The Deputy Speaker of National Assembly, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, in his message on Kashmir Right to Self-Determination Day, said that the freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people stands as a shining example of unparalleled sacrifices, perseverance, and resilience, which deserves due recognition at the global level.
He emphasized that a just resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN resolutions is essential for lasting peace and stability in South Asia.
The Deputy Speaker further stated that the Parliament of Pakistan stands in complete solidarity with the Kashmiri people and remains firmly committed to safeguarding their political, diplomatic, and moral rights. He also extended his best wishes to the Kashmiri people for freedom, peace, and a prosperous future.
