ITP processes 160,000 licences, takes action against 300,000 violators in six months

Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) processed more than 160,000 driving licence applications and took legal action against over 300,000 traffic violators during the last six months as part of efforts to improve road safety, enforce traffic laws and ensure smooth traffic flow in the federal capital.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 12 (APP): Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) processed more than 160,000 driving licence applications and took legal action against over 300,000 traffic violators during the last six months as part of efforts to improve road safety, enforce traffic laws and ensure smooth traffic flow in the federal capital.
An ITP official told APP on Friday that Islamabad Traffic Police undertook extensive measures during the period to facilitate citizens, promote road safety awareness and strengthen enforcement of traffic regulations across the city.
The official said more than 160,000 citizens were provided driving licence-related services, including issuance of over 66,000 learner permits and renewal of more than 38,000 driving licences.
According to the official, over 3,500 duplicate licences and more than 50,000 fresh driving licences were issued, while over 5,000 licences were converted or endorsed during the six-month period.
The official said Islamabad Traffic Police also launched extensive awareness campaigns and educated more than 500,000 citizens on road safety and traffic regulations.
Under the road education programme, over 200,000 citizens received awareness, while more than 54,000 people were reached through activities conducted in various markets.
Similarly, over 74,000 citizens were educated under the Good Citizen Campaign, while more than 97,000 people received awareness through the Friends of Police Programme.
The official said road safety seminars organized at educational institutions, public and private organizations and other public places helped educate thousands of citizens about safe driving practices and traffic laws.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Traffic Police took legal action against more than 300,000 traffic violators during the reporting period.
The official said over 25,000 motorists were penalized for lane violations, while legal action was taken against more than 47,000 citizens for illegal parking.
Similarly, action was taken against over 32,000 vehicles displaying fancy number plates and more than 16,000 motorcyclists for riding without helmets.
More than 18,000 motorists were penalized for wrong-way driving, while legal action was initiated against over 21,000 vehicles for overloading.
The official said Islamabad Traffic Police remained committed to utilizing modern technology, improving citizen facilitation services and providing a safer travelling environment for road users.
