ITP issue 0.139 mln driving licenses in two years, Senate body informed
Guards, protocol withdrawn from President, PM during electioneering on CEC directives

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP): The Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control was informed on Thursday that Islamabad Traffic Police have issued 0.139 million computerized driving licenses in two years to facilitate the motorists.

Of the total, 51,643 licenses were issued during 2014 while 88,237 were issued during 2015.

This was informed during a meeting chaired by Senator Rehman Malik and also attended by members including Senators Muhammad Saleh Shah, Col ® Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, Mukhtiar Ahmed Dhamrah, Shahi Syed, Muhammad Ali Khan Saif, Chaudhary Tanvir Khan and Syed Shibli Faraz.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Islamabad, Tariq Masood Yasin briefed the committee about achievements and future plans of ITP and said during the period 4803 professional licenses were issued, 42050 non-professional licenses, 71,530 licenses were renewed while 1,16,115 learners permits were also issued.

The IGP said ITP plan to introduce e-ticketing system in ICT, Automatic Renewal of Driving (ARD) licensing system, establishment of 39 traffic posts (kiosks) alongwith main highways, induction of students as ITP ambassadors and ITP internship programme.
With regard to performance of Islamabad Safe City project, he said during Ramazan and Eid holidays, special emphasis was accorded to monitor one-wheeling in Federal Capital.
He said during Eid holidays 31 vehicles and 1843 motorbikes were impounded and added that by grace of Allah Almighty not a single casualty was reported due to one-wheeling in ICT area.
Senator Rehman Malik appreciated performance of Islamabad police and sought a complete briefing on implementation status of Islamabad Safe City project in next meeting.
Senator Shahi Syed spoke high about Islamabad Safe City project and said such a project should also be introduced in other major cities of the country.
He appreciated the government for introducing the project in a short span of time and in this regard efforts of Ministry of Interior are laudable.
