ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (APP): Islamabad witnessed a colourful City Parade at D-Chowk on Friday evening as the federal capital marked Independence Day with a vibrant display of national culture, music and public festivities, 12 years after the last such parade.
Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi attended the event, along with Islamabad Capital Territory Chief Commissioner and Capital Development Authority Chairman Sohail Ashraf, Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi and other senior officials.
A large number of citizens and families turned up at the Old Parade Ground to participate in the Independence Day celebrations. The event featured colourful parade formations, cultural performances, musical programmes and entertainment activities for children.
The Islamabad Police contingent, led by Saud Khan, participated in the parade, while contingents of Islamabad Traffic Police and Islamabad Police electric vehicles also took part.
The parade highlighted the cultural diversity of Pakistan, featuring representations from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kalash and Cholistan.
Traditional performances, including a Jhang dance group, drum performers, pipe and percussion bands and a camel band, added colour to the celebrations.
A display of vintage cars and heavy bikes also drew considerable attention from the audience, while a horse-dancing performance further entertained the spectators.
The specially prepared giant national flag was also unveiled during the parade.
Children enjoyed puppet shows and appearances by various mascots, including Rafi Peer mascots, which remained a major attraction for families.
Renowned artists Nimra Mehra and Sahir Ali Bagga, along with Khumariyaan band, presented live musical performances, while patriotic songs kept the atmosphere charged with national spirit.
Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the City Parade had been organised to involve citizens in Independence Day celebrations and highlight the country’s rich cultural heritage.
He said living nations celebrated their Independence Day with national unity and enthusiasm, adding that the occasion was also a day to renew the resolve for national unity, patriotism and a brighter future for Pakistan.
The celebrations concluded with a spectacular fireworks display, illuminating the night sky as citizens expressed their enthusiasm and joy.
