ISLAMABAD, Dec 19 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain Monday said Islam was a religion of peace and it should not be associated with terrorism.
“We need to promote friendship and goodwill amongst us instead of differences,” he added.
The president said this while addressing the Seerat-un-Nabi Conference here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, which was attended by Minister of State for Religious Affairs Pir Amin ul Hasnat Shah, parliamentarians, religious scholars, journalists and people belonging to various walks of life.
The president said the whole world was in turmoil due to the menaces of extremism and terrorism which could be ended only by following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).
He rejected the perception by certain quarters that compulsory obligation of ‘Jihad and Warfare’ by Muslims was creating unrest in the world.
The president emphasized that it should be well understood that the basic purpose behind the concepts of Jihad or Warfare was to end oppression and injustice in the world adding that there were many conditions to meet before adopting these concepts.
He stated that “we must keep in mind the teachings in which guidance has been given about maintaining relations with relatives, neighbors and the people.”
The president underlined that many differences could be removed by promoting mutual trust amongst people belonging to different religions, civilizations and cultures.
He said it was the responsibility of Muslims to convey this message of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) to the whole humanity which would have a very positive effect and ensure global peace.
The president said Islam had forbidden from hurting any Muslim or non-Muslim and had declared the killing of an innocent person equal to killing of all mankind.
He stated that “the teachings of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) tells us that it is better for humanity to avoid wars but if a war is imposed in self-defense then we should adopt the way the examples of which can be found in the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H).”
The president said Islam had forbidden all forms of terrorism adding that those involved in it were either astray or had forgotten their true mission.
He suggested that the Ulema by rising above their political affiliations and sects should guide these misguided people and convey the true teachings of religion.
The president stressed that “We should follow the path adopted by the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) in war and peace.”
He said, “it is our belief that our success lies only in following the path shown by the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) as any deviation from his teachings will bring destruction.”
Mufti Munib ur Rehman, Maulana Fazal Rahim, Dr. Mohsin Naqvi and Allama Zubair Ahmed Zaheer also addressed the conference and highlighted different aspects of the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).
On the occasion, special prayers were offered for peace, progress and security of Pakistan and for the Muslims to follow the Sunnah in its true spirit.
