ISLAMABAD, Oct 25 (APP): A seven member Iranian delegation headed by Seyyed Muhammad Jafar Montazeri, Attorney General of Islamic Republic of Iran called on Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali here on Tuesday at Supreme Court.

Chief Justice welcomed the delegation and discussed issues of mutual
interest and told the delegation that there were similarities between the two countries as they had similar culture and social values.

Therefore, both countries could take advantage by sharing the
experiences and knowledge in different fields, he said adding it would enhance the cooperation between the judiciaries of the two countries as well as other fields of mutual interests.

The Chief Justice told the delegates that judicial academies in Pakistan
established at Islamabad and at all Provincial Headquarters to impart judicial education to Judges, lawyers, prosecutors and court staff.

Judicial officers of Iran could also take advantage of these judicial
academies which would help enhancing cooperation between the two countries, he added.

The Attorney General of Islamic Republic of Iran informed the CJP about
different agreements between the two countries on issues of exchanging prisoners etc and emphasized the need to implement them for benefit of the people.

He requested the Chief Justice to take steps for release of Iranian
people from Pakistani jails in different cases.

The Chief Justice assured them to consider if it was taken up through
official channels.

The Iranian delegation offered condolences on the tragic incident of
attack on Police Training Centre, Quetta.

They also conveyed good wishes of Head of Iranian Judiciary to Chief
Justice of Pakistan and extended a request to visit Iran.

The delegation presented the Quran with Persian translation and souvenir to Chief Justice as token of respect and gesture of goodwill.
The Chief Justice also reciprocated the gesture by presenting a memento on the occasion.

Mehdi Honardoost, Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran in Pakistan,
Mohammad Ali Cheragheyan, Deputy Attorney General in Narcotics Affairs of Iran, Ali Akbar Bkhtiari, Head of Attorney General’s office of Iran, Mahdiabadi, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Iran in Pakistan, Siymak Saeedi Favaedi, Incharge Technical & International Cooperation of Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General of the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Javad Kazemi, Director, Foreign Ministry of Iran were also present in the meeting.
