ISLAMABAD, Mar 15 (APP):The Ministry of Foreign Affairs here on Tuesday launched the inaugural issue of the international journal “Science Diplomacy Perspectives” in collaboration with COMSTECH.
In his welcome address, Coordinator General COMSTECH, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary said that in the context of the 48th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting, to be held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Pakistan, as well as at a defining moment in global history when new alliances are being formed by nations, the launching of this journal was of special significance.
Extending his felicitations to the entire team of the Science Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on their excellent and timely initiative, he said that it reflected the importance which Pakistan places on soft diplomacy. He informed that the current issue is a compilation of 17 scholarly articles on various aspects of science diplomacy, ranging from defining new trends in science diplomacy to the central role of various technologies in diplomatic context.
Prof. Choudhary highlighted that the journal was excellent reviews on China-Pakistan cooperation, agriculture biotechnology, cyber security, science and society nexus, as well as contributions of Pakistan’s premier research institutions on global diplomacy.
All are written by practitioners and experts of science diplomacy, he added.
He hoped to see this journal emerging as a leading impact factor treatise where foreign policy researchers and seasoned diplomats feel proud to publish their work.
Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood appreciated the efforts for launching this excellent journal, the support and partnership of COMSTECH and its recent initiatives taken in the area of science diplomacy. He said that the Ministry and COMSTECH would work together to take the science diplomacy initiative further. He appreciated the important contributions of COMSTECH in Pakistan’s science diplomacy initiative.
