Implementation of National Housing Policy 2025 real challenge: Housing Secretary

ISLAMABAD, Oct 05 (APP):Secretary Housing & Works, Capt. (Retd.) Muhammad Mahmood, on Monday said that effective implementation of the National Housing Policy 2025 was the real challenge, stressing that the government was committed to translating the policy into tangible results for the people.
He was addressing the launching ceremony of the National Housing Policy 2025, held at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) on the occasion of World Habitat Day.
He said that the formulation of the policy after a long gap was a major achievement, but the real success would depend on its effective implementation.
He said the policy had been prepared with a clear vision and now it was the responsibility of the ministry and its team to deliver results and turn the policy into reality.
The secretary said that with the support of the Prime Minister, Cabinet, ministers and other stakeholders, the targets set under the policy could be achieved.
“There is nothing impossible,” he said, adding that although there would be challenges, the government was determined to overcome them and make the policy a reality.
He highlighted that Pakistan generally had good policies, laws and regulations, but the major challenge was their implementation and enforcement.
The secretary said the ministry was fully committed to delivering on the commitments made to the people of Pakistan.
He said the launch of the National Housing Policy 2025 was itself proof of the government’s commitment, adding that considerable work, milestones, deliverables and actions had already been completed during the policy formulation process.
“This demonstrates our commitment that we will not stop here. We will take it forward with the action plan and implement it,” he said.
The secretary said the objective was to ensure that every citizen could enjoy the basic right to adequate housing.
He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and partners who contributed to the development of the policy, including technical experts, UN-Habitat, relevant ministries and other institutions.
He also appreciated the efforts of his team for supporting the process from the outset and helping make the policy implementable.
The secretary thanked NUST for hosting the launching ceremony and appreciated the institution for holding the event in connection with World Habitat Day, which highlights the importance of adequate housing for all.
