PESHAWAR, Jan 13 (APP):Local people and elders of Karak district have expressed their grave concern over illegal gold mining in residential areas of Karak, threatening serious damage to rick olive forest in the area.
In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, local people of Karak alleged that despite the district administration’s ban on illegal gold mining in residential areas, mining activities could not be stopped, due to which olive forests are facing serious threats.
They expressed strong reservations over this situation and demanded to ensure its prevention by concerned departments.
It should be noted that Section 144 was imposed in the said areas by issuing a notification on January 5, 2026 by Deputy Commissioner Karak.
According to the notification, despite the orders of the district administration, gold miners in residential areas are continuing their mining activities, therefore, in order to prevent illegal mining activities, a ban is imposed on these activities for 60 days within the limits of Sabirabad police station.
According to dwellers of the area, olive forests are spread on a large scale in the villages of Turki Khel and Badin Khel and such mining and activities pose serious threats to these forests.
Local residents have urged the district administration and the mining department to take immediate action to prevent further damage to the olive forest.
