ISLAMABAD, Mar 14 (APP): Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police arrested an illegal Afghan dacoit, who was injured during an exchange of fire with a police raiding team in the jurisdiction of Tarnol Police Station, while two of his accomplices managed to flee the scene.
An official told APP on Saturday that a police team conducted a raid after receiving information about the presence of armed suspects planning a robbery in the area.
He said that three armed suspects opened indiscriminate fire on the police raiding team upon seeing them.
However, the police personnel remained safe due to timely defensive measures and the use of bulletproof jackets.
During the encounter, one suspect identified as Hayatullah was injured by firing from his accomplices and was arrested by the police, while two other suspects escaped.
The official said that a 30-bore pistol used in criminal activities was recovered from the possession of the arrested suspect.
During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to multiple robbery incidents committed at gunpoint.
He further revealed that the arrested accused Hayatullah is a resident of Afghanistan and was staying illegally in Pakistan.
Police have launched a search operation to arrest the fleeing accomplices involved in the incident.
