IHC to hear plea challenging departmental inquiry against ex-DG NCCIA

ISLAMABAD, Jul 20 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) is set to hear on Tuesday a petition filed by former National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Director General Waqaruddin Syed challenging a departmental inquiry initiated against him over corruption allegations.

Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar will hear the case. The inquiry was initiated following corruption allegations against the former NCCIA chief.

However, Waqaruddin Syed approached the high court, alleging bias on the part of the inquiry officer and seeking judicial intervention.

Earlier, the court had issued notices to the Establishment Division and the Ministry of Interior, seeking their reports while restraining the authorities from taking any disciplinary action against the petitioner until further orders.

According to court records, the Establishment Division had issued a charge sheet and statement of allegations against Waqaruddin Syed on June 3, 2026.

In his petition, the former NCCIA chief requested the court to suspend the inquiry proceedings until the inquiry officer was replaced and the relevant record was provided to him.

The petitioner further contended that he was not given the mandatory 14 days to submit a written reply to the charge sheet and that notices were issued to witnesses for recording their statements before the expiry of the response period.

The high court has also directed the law officer to assist the court in the matter.
