IHC summons officials of establishment division, finance ministry in person

ISLAMABAD, Jan 21 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday summoned joint secretaries of Establishment Division and Finance Ministry in person in a case for not appointment the deputy secretary Monopoly Control Board for seven years.
The court asked the officials to explain that why its orders were not implemented regarding the appointment. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the case regarding the matter. Assistant Attorney General Sarfaraz Rauf and the petitioner’s lawyer Afnan Karim Kundi appeared in the court.
The court said that an officer has been waiting for appointment for 7 years. The petitioner’s lawyer said that in 2020, the IHC ordered the appointment of the officer but it has not been implemented yet.
The public prosecutor said that Deputy Secretary Umar Aziz was posted in the Monopoly Control Authority, which was abolished.
Chief Justice Aamir Farooq remarked that a person is kept in a state of limbo and now they are saying that his relevant department has been closed. He questioned that why didn’t they implement the court order, who was supposed to execute the decision, he asked.
The chief justice said that the institution that was closed must have had a replacement. Whose institution is the Competition Commission and under whom does it come, he said.
Chief Justice Aamir Farooq the Joint Secretaries of the Ministry of Finance and the Establishment Division should appear next week. The court summoned both the Joint Secretaries and adjourned the hearing till next week.
