\ISLAMABAD, Oct 14 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has made the process of direct recruitment of inspectors in the federal police subject to its final decision in a case challenging the legality of the appointments.
Justice Ayaz Shaukat issued notices to the Secretary Interior, Inspector General of police, Additional IG, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, deputy secretary interior and the Public Service Commission, seeking their responses to the petition filed by 39 sub-inspectors, including Arshad Ali.
The petitioners have challenged the Ministry of Interior’s notification dated April 29 and an advertisement issued by the Public Service Commission on August 11, regarding direct recruitment to the post of inspector.
Barrister Adil Aziz Qazi appeared on behalf of the petitioners.
According to the court order, the petitioners’ counsel argued that direct recruitment to the post of inspector was contrary to Article 7(3) of the Police Order 2002, which, he maintained, was applicable in the Islamabad Capital Territory.
The counsel also referred to an IHC judgment from 2019 that had recognised the applicability of the Police Order 2002 in Islamabad.
The petitioners contended that the law did not provide for direct recruitment to the inspector’s post and warned that allowing the process to continue could result in appointments contrary to the prescribed legal procedure.
The court also directed that notices be issued to the Attorney General for Pakistan and the Advocate General, Islamabad.
The court ruled that any steps taken in the recruitment process would remain subject to the final outcome of the petition.
The case involves the interpretation of the law and the applicability of the Police Order 2002 to direct recruitment of inspectors.
The next hearing has been scheduled for October 28.
