ISLAMABAD, Jan 08 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday granted time to Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) for submission of comments in a case against PEMRA’s notification to TV channels to pay 5 percent of annual revenue as tax.
Justice Saman Rifat Imtiaz reserves verdict on petitions of Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) and eight TV channels. Assistant Attorney General Imran Farooq Advocate appeared in court during the hearing.
The Assistant Attorney General prayed the court to grant time for submission of written comments into the matter. The court accepted the request and granted one-week time for the written answer.
The court had earlier reserved verdict on the petitions after hearing the arguments. The case was fixed for re-hearing due to non-issuance of notice to the Attorney General.
The PBA and TV channels had approached Islamabad High Court against PEMRA notices in 2022. The court had issued a stay order on PEMRA notices to pay 5 percent tax on annual revenue from advertisements.
