IHC fines lawyer Rs200,000 for filing frivolous petition, wasting court’s time

ISLAMABAD, Oct 16 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on Islamabad-based lawyer Siraj Ahmed for filing a frivolous petition and wasting the court’s time.
In an order issued by Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, the court directed the lawyer to deposit the amount into the national exchequer.
The court further ordered that no application filed by Siraj Ahmed be processed on either the administrative or judicial side until he pays the fine.
The order stated that the lawyer’s conduct was inappropriate both in drafting the petition and during his appearance before the court.
The court observed that it had previously shown restraint over similar conduct by the lawyer in another case.
It also directed that Siraj Ahmed would be allowed to enter the court premises only for the purpose of pursuing a case.
Justice Soomro declared the petition filed by the lawyer in his capacity as a petitioner frivolous and upheld the objections raised by the registrar’s office.
