IHC disposes of plea against detention of a citizen

ISLAMABAD, Apr 02 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday disposed of a petition filed by a woman seeking the recovery of her husband alleging his illegal detention by the police.
The petition was heard by Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas, who noted that the petitioner’s husband was allegedly detained in connection with a case but had already been presented before a magistrate.
According to the petitioner’s counsel, the husband was taken from his home and held at a police station in Lohi Bher. However, he was later produced before a magistrate after the filing of the petition.
The court observed that since the individual had been produced before the magistrate, the question of illegal detention no longer fell within the scope.
The court advised the petitioner to pursue other legal remedies, such as filing for bail, seeking dismissal of the case, or challenging remand orders. The petition was disposed of as having become infructuous.
It may be metioned here that the IHC had previously acquitted the woman petitioner in a theft case worth Rs250 millions. The woman had alleged that her husband had been detained by the police.
