IHC CJ urges responsible court reporting

ISLAMABAD, Apr 08 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ‘s Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfaraz Dogar on Wednesday emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, stating that the media is the “fourth pillar of the state” and plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion.
Addressing a ceremony held for the oath-taking of newly elected office-bearers of the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association, the Chief Justice said that judicial decisions become public property once announced and can be criticized without restriction.
However, he stressed that such decisions must not be twisted or misrepresented.
He urged court reporters to maintain neutrality while covering proceedings and avoid taking sides.
“Criticize us if we are wrong — we would welcome it,” he remarked, adding that fair analysis of court decisions is essential.
Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas was also present at the ceremony.
The Chief Justice highlighted that court reporting carries significant responsibility, as the words used by journalists influence public perception.
He called on journalists to discourage sensationalism and promote responsible reporting, particularly in cases of public interest.
“For many people, the judiciary remains the last hope,” he noted.
Chief Justice Dogar, along with Justice Insam Ameen Minhas, congratulated the newly elected president Asad Malik, secretary Asif Naveed, and other office-bearers of the association.
