ISLAMABAD, Oct 06 (APP):The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has intensified its ongoing crackdown against electricity theft, imposing fines worth Rs16.7 million and arresting 62 power thieves during operations conducted across various areas in September 2025.
According to IESCO Chief Executive Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood, the campaign is being carried out in compliance with the special directives of the Federal Government and the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) as part of a nationwide effort to curb power pilferage, said a press release.
He said IESCO’s dedicated teams have been conducting day and night operations to detect and eliminate electricity theft, which not only causes heavy losses to the national economy but also infringes on the rights of honest consumers who regularly pay their bills.
Sharing operational details, the IESCO chief said that during September, operations teams checked 82,979 meters, out of which 39 meters were found tampered, while 174 consumers were found drawing direct electricity supply. A total of 318,000 units were charged to the culprits, and 16.7 million fine charged to electricity pilfer.
He added that the police, in collaboration with IESCO’s enforcement teams, arrested 62 individuals involved in electricity theft, while dozens of illegal connections were disconnected and meters removed.
