ISLAMABAD, Jan 04 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police arrested three armed dacoits, including one injured suspect, after an encounter with a robbery gang in the limits of Kohsar Police Station, while one accomplice managed to escape.
An official told APP on Sunday that four armed dacoits opened fire on a police team during a search operation after committing robbery incidents in the area. During the exchange of fire, one dacoit identified as Abbas was injured by firing from his own accomplices and was arrested along with two other suspects.
The official said the injured suspect Abbas was wanted in multiple cases of dacoity and street crime in Islamabad. During preliminary interrogation, the arrested dacoits confessed to several robbery incidents committed recently in the F-7 sector.
He said the suspects had earlier snatched a mobile phone and cash from a citizen and later attempted another robbery. The victim immediately informed police, following which a search operation was launched.
While the police team was searching the area, the four armed dacoits opened indiscriminate fire upon spotting the police. The police team remained safe due to timely defensive measures and bulletproof jackets.
During the operation, police recovered three pistols used in robberies, along with snatched mobile phones, wallets and cash from the arrested suspects.
The official said one accomplice managed to flee from the scene, and search operations are under way to arrest the remaining suspect.
Police officials reiterated that Islamabad Police would continue strict action against criminal elements to ensure the safety of citizens and maintain law and order in the federal capital.
